Have you ever thought that game soundtrack is a lacking? Different music genre or just different tracks/ songs would fit the game better? In Beat Hazard 3 you can use your own music and game levels will be based on that music.
Beat Hazard 3 Review will tell about the Arcade PC game where you will fight in space listening to your own music. Select your ship and special weapons and move out to conquer arcade stages, setting high score for the track or even create a galaxy our of your favorite artists.
Yes, you heard it right, Beat Hazard 3 is a mixture of Arcade shooter and Music game. It might sound like Beat Saber, but in reality it have more from the arcade, than you might think
Beat Hazard 3 Game Modes
Every music track/ song is a separate level with its own leaderboard and highscores. So you can compete with all the players from around the world.
There are 3 game modes currently available:
Arcade, where you play to the track that you like with additional game modes.
Galactic Campaign, where you create your own galaxy of the music genres and authors of your choice.
Community Challenges, where you can compete with other players in daily, lightning and galactic challenges for rare elite ships.
Arcade game mode is pretty straightforward: You select a song and start the game. You can go for standard 1-track round, Boss Rush, Survival and Chill Out modes. In the classic mode you will get a random ship in the end, in other modes you can boast your high scores on the leaderboard of that game mode.
Galactic Campaign is basically a long term commitment that you can play with your friends. You create a galaxy, where each star is an album, each planet is a song and create constellations of genres. The idea is pretty fun, and you can use your Mothership here.
Mothership is upgradeable ship that allow you to hold more ships and travel around Galactic Campaign using its subspace and jump drives. Overall this game mode adds a lot of spice to the game, since you can tailor your experience based on your musical taste.
Community Challenges are well… challenging. You need to get a spot in top 10 players in order to win an elite ship. Its pretty hard but still very fun and you can master your skills with each try. Although I would prefer some other way of getting an elite ship.
Beat Hazard 3 Fighting
Overall fighting is intense and require quite a good amount of reaction and skills. In most game modes you will have several lives, but you can be easily swarmed with enemies, specifically if some of them have shields on.
Shields though can be mitigated using lasers, but they take time to charge again and some shields require several bursts to get through. Switching between laser fire and normal one, while maneuvering between multiple enemies and their projectiles make up the core mechanics of combat in Beat Hazard 3.
Sometimes it requires a different type of ship to reach higher difficulties and better high scores. And as always practice makes perfect.
Conclusion
Beat Hazard 3 is still in the VERY early access and its easy to see how promising this game can be. Competing with your friends for the highscore on the favorite song or track, or going through the campaign together is fun. Community challenges are another way to enjoy the competition and it will be interesting to see how Galactic Campaign will play out in that mode.
