Tap Wizard 2 Game basics
So ok, when you just start out, you will go through few awakenings, unlocking fist main features of Tap Wizard 2. For the beginners, we will go through some basic mechanics of the game, that way it will be clear which game feature does what.
First of all your character can move by him/herself. You can take manual control but its not necessary most of the time.
Staff of Knowledge
Your main goal is to upgrade your Staff of Knowledge to the maximum level and Awaken. This is a prestige mechanics in Tap Wizard 2. Every time you Awaken your max level of Staff of Knowledge will increase by 1 and you will get 4 mirrors for your The Great Mirror talents distribution. You can read Tap Wizard 2 The Great Mirror Guide for more in-depth info on how to make good Mirror Builds.
There are 4 things that affect Staff of Knowledge exp gain:
- Max Wave
- Analytic Absorprion level from the Research
- Achievements
- Great Mirror perks
You gotta work on all of those to make sure you level your Staff of Knowledge as fast as possible. This will assure your fast progression.
To progress through the waves you will need to make your wizard stronger, in order to do that you can invest in the Research, which is self-explanatory and Enchant your Obelisk Shard.
Tap Wizard 2 Obelisk Shard
In Tap Wizard 2 Obelisk Shard will give you insane multipliers when leveled up. This will allow you to push higher waves and get more exp for the Staff of Knowledge.
There are 2 multipliers available for the Obelisk Shard:
- Damage
- Research Cost Discount
Both of those are essential for your progression, but dont be in a hurry to press enchant on your Obelisk Shard.
Each time you do Enchantment your wave will reset back to 0 and all your power will go back to 0 as well. Dont be worried though, your power will be reclaimed back at a rate of 1% of current total power every 3 seconds. The further you are on the waves, the longer it will take to reclaim your lost power. Also all the kills that are supposed to give you souls will give you power straight away too.
Because of that its better to do Enchantments in big baches. I recommend going with something around +25 or higher, you will find your sweet spot as you progress the game.
Tap Wizard 2 Spells and Builds
In Tap Wizard 2 depending on the Era your build will vary a lot, this Build and Spells guide will help you to figure out META builds for each Era. Each new Era will unlock new set of spells, and its your role to combine them right in the Spellbook. You can have up to 4 spells equipped, and for most classes you can have several copies of the same spell.
Check out the extended Spells and Builds Guide for all Eras to learn more about builds available for each Era and Spell tips.
Main sum up here is to try to combine spells together so they would benefit each other and work together in Synergy. For example, one spell will be putting Status Effect on the enemy, while another will make use of that status effect to get additional properties.

Online vs Offline in Tap Wizard 2
As an idle game, Tap Wizard 2 can be played in 3 modes:
- Active Online mode: you either control a character, or keep your eyes on him most of the time
- Semi-Online mode: You check on the game running in the background/on the phone every 10-30 minutes or so
- Offline mode: You keep the game off and check it from time to time during the day
Lets take a look at each option and figure out how efficient progress will be.
Active Online mode in Tap Wizard 2
This is the most rewarding mode in Tap Wizard 2. You can adjust the movements of your Wizard to pick up the throve chests, help him in combat and use runes when necessary.
All 100% of souls collected are converted to Power every time you get defeated and get in the Chronozone.
Overall its optimal way of playing the game, but its not that Idle if you play it that way.
Semi-Online mode in Tap Wizard 2
In this mode you make use of The Latern of Recall. Basically every time you get defeated and get in the Chronozone game will wait for some time and start the new run automatically. In this Auto mode you will have Latern active. It picks up Souls and Gold from the defeated enemies, but if you get defeated and get into the Chronozone you will lose some percentage of that loot. By default its 25%. And every time you die you will get diminishing returns on the loot you have stored in the Latern. After an hour it will move to the Offline mode.
But do not worry, if your runs take some time you can claim Latern midrun and get all the loot inside without penalty before being moved to the Chronosphere. This will allow you to have somewhat Idle-relaxed gameplay, when you check on the game once in a while and get most of the rewards.
Just make sure to queue up the research, level up your Staff of Wisdom and Enchant your Obelisk Shard if it have a good +30 or higher waiting.
I would say this mode is most optimal for lazy players like me.
Offline Mode in Tap Wizard 2
Offline mode is when the application is closed. This causes harsh penalties to most of the progression areas of the game:
- Staff of Knowledge is getting x5 reduced exp/hour
- You get no runes from the enemies, unless you have Runic Loop (find up to 10 random Runes while Offline. 1 rune /hour)
- You will not be able to use the souls collected, level up your Staff of Wisdom or Progress waves beyond your Max wave, which will limit your gains
- You will get less gold and souls from the enemies
Mechanics of offline Gold and Soul drops is a little bit complicated: The offline gold and power are based on the drop value of the mobs at the highest Wave you’ve beaten (that awakening). So it gives you gold and power assuming that you get 1 Gold and Power drop every 60 seconds and mobs have a base 20% chance to drop power OR gold.
So overall offline Gold and Souls/Power gains are roughly equivalent to killing 5 mobs each minute at your highest wave.
But if you have done all the Achievements and hit maximum Awakening for the current Era you can freely go offline, since The Chronosphere Timeshards that you collect will be gained at the same rate, so your kindle time wont go slower.

And remember, it doesnt REALLY matter what build to use, you can go with non-META build just nicely, it will just take a little more time. Its most important to have fun while playing the game, so feel free to try weird/funny builds to see how they perform.
