Final Factory: If Factorio went to Space.

Recently I’ve found an interesting game on steam called Final Factory. Its a great mix of genres: Factory style game, where you will have to build production lines and Space Station building, including guns and weapons.

Developed by Never Games, a single indie developer, it have a lot of great potential and mechanics straight away. Exploration, combat, resource management, you name it. I gave it a go and was amazed on how fun it is and how promising it looks.

First Look at the Final Factory.

I played it for 10 hours and really enjoyed going from mining asteroids to building huge modular space factories and fighting enemies. Final Factory have a deep research tree, that requires you to expand in order to unlock new technologies and some unique station mechanics like heat and structure. That makes overall base layout more modular and prevents from building huge spaghetti bases.

Fighting the enemy in Final Factory goes from manual shooting them to the drones attacking the enemies to the building actual bases that can fly around and clear enemy nests.

Also game have some story to it, so its not just a sandbox experience (although mostly it is) and as you unveil or unlock new mechanics it gives you another piece of it.

As for the drawbacks, production lines early on seems a bit too simple, but given the fact that you cant make one huge base logistics in Final Factory will play a crucial role. Designing the base right way to avoid transportation hiccups will be a challenge.

Once players will get grasp of the basic game mechanics it gets easier and more enjoyable. There is a great Final Factory Wiki on Game Vault that have all the info on the game.

Also Final Factory features 3 tutorial styles:

  • Hand-held. Here players will get excessive tutorial tips showing how to play the game
  • Limited. In this scenario the game will explain main game mechanics that are different from other factory games. Some game mechanics will have to be explored by the player.
  • None. You go straight into the game, no tutorial, I loved that option to be able to use the progression path that I decided to take.

Currently the game is is getting ready for Early Access on Steam and doing some final development steps, so give it a wishlist and keep an eye for a release. Its only getting better.
